Mt. Airy, NC-- Officers with Mount Airy Police Department have a man in custody charged with breaking into numerous houses.
Police said they've been investigating the residential break-ins since mid December 2012. In all, officers said there were fourteen break-ins and one attempted break-in was reported in the neighborhoods surrounding Worth Street.
Police said an alert neighbor helped them catch the person they believe is responsible for the crimes. The neighbor called police on January 31 and reported a suspicious person walking in the area of Worth Street near Newsome Street. When officers arrived to investigate, the man ran.
He ran into a house on Worth Street to elude officers, but the person inside the house confronted the suspect who ran out of the house where police arrested him.
The man was identified as Seth Mitchell Lunsford, 23. Lunsford was charged with for two Outstanding Orders for Arrest from Stokes County. A search of Lunsford revealed a pry bar and stolen items.
After executing a search warrant at his address on Worth St. investigators found items that had been reported stolen during the break-ins.
Lunsford has been charged with the following:
- 13 counts of Breaking and Entering and Larcenies
- 3 counts of Larceny of Firearms
- 3 counts of Possession of Firearms by Convicted Felon
- count of Misdemeanor Breaking and Entering
- 1 count of Possession of Burglary Tools
- 1 count of Attempted Breaking and Entering
Lunsford is currently in the Surry County Jail under a $375.000.00 bond. The investigation continues and more charges are expected.
