WFMY News 2 -- Charlie is not even one-year-old and she's survived three open-heart surgeries.

The Thomasville infant has a congenital heart defect, a condition that doesn't allow blood flow into her heart. Just hours after Charlie was born in March 2012, she had her first open heart surgery.

Charlie and her family spoke to Tanya Rivera today on WFMY News 2 about Charlie's journey and congenital heart defect awareness week.

If you want to help babies like Charlie, there are two events you can attend:

  • Don Juan's in Lexington will donate a portion of its proceeds to Mended Little Hearts all day Feb. 12. Address: 43 S. Talbert Blvd.
