Davidson County, NC -- Drivers traveling on Interstate 85 could experience smoother traffic a sometimes congested area of Davidson County.
The Department of Transportation will shift traffic onto the newly constructed outside lanes of I-85 North from N.C. 150 to I-85 Business in Davidson County Saturday night.
The shift will start at 8 p.m. and end on Sunday by 11 a.m.
To help motorists move as safely as possible, crews will close lanes on I-85 North, as well as the entrance ramp from I-85 North to I-85 Business, and the entrance loop and exit ramp at I-85 North and Belmont Road.
The ramp closures will happen one after another during the traffic shift period, starting with the I-85 Business entrance ramp. DOT will lift the closures as soon as permanent striping work is complete.
If you're traveling on I-85 North Saturday and want to access I-85 Business, exit the interstate at the Linwood Road exit (Exit 88), turn left onto Hargrave Road and take the I-85 Business North entrance ramp.
If you're traveling on I-85 North and want to get to Belmont Road (Exit 86), take Exit 84, turn left onto N.C. 150, cross over the interstate, turn right onto Old Salisbury Road and turn right onto Belmont Road.
Finally, drivers who want to enter I-85 North from Belmont Road should head north on Clyde Fitzgerald Road and turn left onto Hargrave Road where you can access I-85 North at Exit 88.
NCDOT asks that drivers drive slowly and allow additional time to reach destinations safely while traveling in the work zone.
