Greensboro, NC -- Heart disease and stroke are the number one and number four killers of Americans.

But, over the years, The American Heart Association has made great strides in promoting research, education and awareness.

In Greensboro Saturday night, it was time to celebrate success at the annual heart ball.

WFMY News 2's Jackie Fernandez was on hand to help with the auction and let attendees know that they money raised will help fund research that local doctors and hospitals need to stay ahead in the fight.

"We raise a lot of money in Guilford County. In fact, every dollar raised here in NC. a dollar -20 comes back that's a pretty great return," said Ruth Darling Heyd, Guilford County American Heart Association Development Director.

"Four years ago I had seven blockages and wound up having five-way bypass surgery so I feel very fortunate to be here," said David Nickell, AC Corporation President/Sponsor.
