CHARLOTTE -- A 12-year-old girl led police on a low-speed chase down I-77 Monday night, according to WBTV.

The chase, which never got faster than 20 mph, happened just before midnight. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police tried to pull over an older model pickup truck for a traffic citation, but the driver refused to stop.

State troopers later took over the pursuit.

Officers followed the girl for several miles before she pulled over right before the I-85 interchange.

The girl, from Gaffney, SC, told police she stole her father's pickup truck after the two got into some sort of altercation earlier in the evening. She was trying to get to friends in Ft. Mill.

The girl is currently in a hospital with a broken finger. WBTV reports the injury came when the girl's father was disciplining her.

Police charged the girl with driving with not having an operator's license, failure to maintain lane control, failure to head blue lights and siren, and impeding traffic by slow speed.

Right now, there's no word on if any other charges are going to be filed in the case. There was never a call placed reporting either a missing child, or the truck being stolen.
