Vinny was born on October 9, 2003 and and died peacefully on Monday, February 18, 2013, according to his family.
The DiGerolamo family told WFMY News 2's Tony Smith they are sad, but Vinny's spirit lives on in the foundation they started in 2009 in his honor called Kids of Childhood Cancer.
Through the foundation, they raise money to help families of kids battling cancer at Brenner Children's Hospital. They help with various expenses from household bills to meals to sponsoring families at Christmas. The foundation also has a "Safe Haven" beach condo, where they send families of children battling cancer at no cost. None of the money raised through the foundation went to Vinny and his family.
