Seagrove, NC -- After seven hours of searching, four missing children were reunited with their families.

Authorities say three 7-year-olds and one 5-year-old were playing in their front yard when they wandered into the woods.

The children were found safe just 1,000 yards from where they went missing.

The obvious factors made this search successful - law enforcement, volunteers, and social media.

Yes, social media!

Word spread quickly since thousands of people saw the story on Digtriad and News 2's Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Social media helped recruit 93 volunteers.

In situations like this, social media also helps unclog phone lines. Jared Byrd with Randolph County EMS says people often call 9-1-1 to get information, but when its online, they don't have to.

Byrd says the comments of well wishes and prayers left on Facebook and Twitter makes a big difference for search crews as well.
