Chapel Hill, NC -- Police say they found a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill dead in his off-campus apartment Saturday, according to WRAL.
Stedman Gage, 22, of Wilmington, is the son of former UNC Board of Governors Chairwoman Hannah Gage.
"This is a devastating tragedy, and our family is handling the situation as best we can," the Gage family said in a statement released by the UNC system. "We are heartbroken. We ask for your compassion and respect, for our privacy and that of our son."
Police say they were called to Gage's apartment on W. Patterson Place around 1:30 a.m. Saturday and found his body.
Investigators sent the body to a medical examiner for autopsy. Police say his death doesn't appear to be suspicious.
Gage was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity at UNC-Chapel Hill.
"The [Interfraternity Council] is certainly shocked and deeply saddened by the loss of not only a UNC student but a member of the Greek community," the council said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Gage family and the brothers of Phi Delta Theta."
