Lexington, NC -- We recognize an appreciate men and women who serve in our military. They put their lives on the line and sacrifice their time with their family to protect the rest of us.

But for the Nagel family, being in the military is family tradition. Matthew Nagel is a retired First Sergeant in the US Army. He's now JROTC instructor at Parkland High School in Winston-Salem. His wife, Rhonda, is a veteran of the Navy, Navy Reserves, and Army Reserves. Now, their three sons have continued the tradition and joined the Army. Twenty-two year-old Matthew has just enlisted in the Army as a Military Police officer. Twenty-year-old Christopher is a Private First Class in the Army. He attended basic and job training as a wheeled vehicle mechanic. Their youngest son, Jonathan is 18. He also just enlisted in the Army as a field artillery computer officer. Christopher is stationed at a base in Kentucky. Both Matthew and Jonathan leave for basic training next month.

Rhonda said, "Its neat when your kids want to do what you've done. [...] There was absolutely no pressure."

Matthew said he didn't plan on going into the Army. But he said the Army is giving him an opportunity to pay for his education.

Jonathan said, "I feel like its every man's duty to serve his country, at least in some way shape or form."

Their father, Matthew weighed in saying, "It's a wonderful thing they're doing, being able to leave home, go out on their own, and become young men."
