Tristan Gist, Lexington Detention/WLTX
Richland County, SC-- Richland County deputies have arrested a Richland County jail guard they say killed a pregnant woman and set her on fire.
Tristan Gist, 23, is charged with murder and death or injury of a child in utero due to commission of a violent crime.
Officers say last Thursday, Columbia Firefighters responded to a woods fire off Screaming Eagle Road. As they were putting out the blaze, they discovered a woman's body.
Investigators got a tip that Gist could be involved.
Deputies determined Gist shot the victim around 3 a.m. Thursday. After waiting several hours with the body in his home, officers say he drove her body to the wooded area with his two small children in the car. They say he then set the victim's body on fire.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts had tentatively released the name of the victim as 22-year-old Dierra Fisher. Watts says the woman died of a single gunshot wound to the head.
Investigators say Gist and Fisher had been dating for several years and were living together.
Sheriff Leon Lott says Gist worked as a guard at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. He will be housed at the Lexington County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
