Greensboro, NC -- Rain will remain likely overnight Tuesday with a small chance of snow mixing in Wednesday morning.

As a strong area of low pressure moves through the region Tuesday night periods of heavy rain will be possible. Rainfall totals will be around a quarter of an inch with higher amounts to the north and east of the Triad.

As the storm system tracks north and east of the Triad colder air will arrive in its wake. While this air will be cold enough to support snow showers most of the moisture will have already departed the region.

There will be a small chance of a few spotty rain/snow showers Wednesday morning, but snow accumulations are unlikely. Brief minor accumulations on grassy areas cannot be completely ruled out, but it will not hang around for long.

A trace to a half inch of snow will be possible along the Virginia/North Carolina border, but the greatest accumulations associated with this system will be well north through northern Virginia and eastern West Virginia.

Meanwhile, winds will increase dramatically overnight Tuesday and through the day on Wednesday. Wind speeds Wednesday afternoon will be from 20-30 mph with gusts around 40 mph. As a result a Wind Advisory has been issued for the entire WFMY News 2 viewing area until Midnight Wednesday night.

Temperatures through this entire rain/snow event will remain above freezing with lows Tuesday night in the middle 30s. High temperatures Wednesday afternoon will climb back into the middle 40s with partial clearing expected late in the day.
