Winston-Salem, NC -- Police say a 6-year-old was unharmed after accidentally sending a car through a Winston-Salem home Friday night.

Officers responded to the scene on Bruce Street around 10 p.m.

Investigators say the child was playing in a family member's 1983 Toyota Camry, which was parked in a nearby parking lot. The car's gear shift was defective, so when the child played with it, the car shifted into neutral and began to roll down a hill. The keys were not in the ignitition.

Police say the 6-year-old jumped out of the car and was unharmed.

The Camry picked up speed and rolled down a grassy hill before running into a home at 1540-D Bruce St. No one was home at the time of the accident.

The wreck caused about $12,000 in damage.

No one was injured in the accident.
