Greensboro, NC -- Oak Hollow Mall is losing a major tenant.
Belk is going to be moving its High Point department store to the Palladium shopping center.
Belk's store manager, Jason Scott, tells WFMY News 2 the store will shut down at the end of this year, after the holiday shopping season.
The new store is scheduled to open in late March of 2014. The new department store will be built near Olive Garden at the Palladium. Belk will invest $7.1 million in renovating the new location. Construction should begin in July.
Scott says the new location was chosen because of higher visibility, not because Oak Hollow Mall owner, High Point University, asked it to move.
The current store has 62 employees. The new store is expected to have about 80 employees.
Belk will also renovate it's store at the Friendly Center in Greensboro by investing $9.2 million for the new project. It plans to add modern new decor, redesigned fitting rooms, plus restrooms and seating areas.
They'll also add a new 29,000-square-foot Belk Home Store across from the main store on Green Valley Avenue. It will follow the renovation of its main store and includes a grand reopening set for the fall of 2014.
