Lexington, NC -- Highway Patrol is investigating a tractor-trailer accident that caused U.S. 52 to shut down in both directions Thursday night.
Troopers say the accident happened around 7:15 p.m. The truck driver was heading south on the highway when the tractor-trailer lost control, ran over a guard rail and landed in an embankment.
The truck stopped near the Center Street extension, forcing traffic to be re-routed. Crews are currently directing traffic around the accident.
Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the wreck.
The driver was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, and their condition is unknown.
Troopers do not have an estimate for when they lanes will re-open, but they expect them to remain closed for several hours.
