Greensboro, NC -- A triad church called out for the community help with a cause by donating gently worn shoes and the community answered.
Two weeks ago, Grace United Methodist Church on West Friendly Avenue in Greensboro announced a goal of collecting 2,500 shoes by Easter Sunday.
When they appeared on WFMY News 2's Good Morning Show, they had collected about 400 shoes.
But within days, the church says the donations started pouring in for the Soles For Souls program.
The shoes will be boxed and sent to Haiti where many families have no money to buy footwear.
Some of the shoes will also be sold and the money used to start small businesses.
According to the church there are still donations coming in and they estimate they've collected more than 4,000 shoes so far.
Grace United Methodist Church will dedicate the shoes before shipping them to Haiti next week.
