Greensboro, NC -- You may not have noticed, but there have been new improvements to Greensboro's Downtown Greenway. Action Greensboro paid $5,000 each for three solar-powered trash cans.
They're near the Spring Garden and Lee Street Greenway exits.
They're solar powered, and with that power the trash can compact on its own. That also means they can hold five times more trash! The cans also send city crews an email when they're full, so they don't have to be part of the regular route.
City officials say they've been in place for a few months already. And again, though they cost $5,000 each, and it didn't cost taxpayers anything. Action Greensboro paid for them, and then deeded them to the city. City trash crews are in charge of the maintenance.
