Greensboro, NC -- Three North Carolina communities have been selected as finalists for the "All-America City" Awards; Garner, Dunn and Thomasville.

This year the program is spotlighting community-wide initiatives that honor and benefit veterans and military families.

According to Thomasville City Manager Kelly Carver, the city chamber thought three of Thomasville's community initiatives fit the requirements to apply for the award.

They were Thomasville's three day Veteran's Day events, the Children at Play Initiative, and Project Divine Intervention.

The Children at Play Initiative created all new playground equipment for all seven of Thomasville's city parks. The $300,000 project was paid for by Rotary Clubs, local foundations, individual donors and the city.

Project Divine Interruption links school systems and local churches to provide food, clothes and shoes to students who are economically challenged.

Thomasville is one of 20 cities nationally competing for the "All American City" Award and bragging rights which could help bring in new businesses, jobs and grant money for future community projects.

The National Civic League will select the winner and hand out the "All-America City" Award in Denver, Colorado in June.
