Winston-Salem, NC -- A man used a stolen Excavator to steal an ATM from a Winston-Salem credit union early Monday morning, according to police.
When investigators arrived at the Allegacy Federal Credit Union on Vine Street they said it appeared someone had stolen an Excavator belonging to Whiting-Turner Construction from a nearby construction lot. Officers said the suspect drove the stolen equipment about 200 yards to the ATM and knocked the machine over with its claw.
The Excavator was then used to pick up the more than 2,000 pound ATM and place it into a waiting vehicle.
Through video surveillance footage obtained by police, officers described the suspect as a white man - who may be short because of how police said he had to reach for the Excavator's steering wheel - and observed a black Crown Victoria with tinted windows in connection to the robbery.
Officers said the car was last seen driving east on MLK Drive.
Police ask for anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (336) 727-2800.
