Statesville, NC -- An Iredell County woman who authorities say swallowed 10 bags of heroin is among three people arrested on drug-related charges.
The sheriff's office said the three are accused of being part of a drug ring, trafficking heroin from Mexico to Iredell County, by way of Charlotte.
The sheriff's office says officers stopped 28-year-old Kerri Leigh Riley and 35-year-old Lance Sigmon while they were returning from Charlotte, where investigators think the two had gone to pick up heroin.
Investigators say that while talking to Riley, they learned she had swallowed 10 balloons of heroin, weighing a total of 10 grams. She was taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital, where her stomach was pumped.
Deputies also arrested 37-year-old Michelle Harmon Price of Statesville in connection with the investigation. All three were arrested Monday.
