Salisbury, NC -- A plane crashed and was flipped upside down close to the Rowan County Airport, CBS Affiliate WBTV reports.
Pilot Robert Poole received a scratch on his head after crashing a homemade experimental plane. Rowan County Emergency Services Chief Frank Thomason identified the plane as a Vans RV9A.
Poole's plane bounced before flipping during the attempted landing, according to WBTV.
Emergency officials said they were called around 11:30 am Wednesday.
Some fuel spilled from the plane after the crash. The airport was closed to air traffic while the plane was being removed.
Thomason told WBTV Highway Patrol, Salisbury Police Department and Rowan County Sheriff's Office will handle the investigation.
