Asheboro, NC-- No matter how old you get, it's always fun to play in mud. What about competing in mud in an event that's titled "Rugged Maniac"? On Saturday, April 20 you'll get your chance.
The 2013 North Carolina Rugged Maniac is happening in Asheboro. What is normally a motorcross course is being converted to an obstacle course for the event. Organizers say 14,000 people are expected to attend this year's mud run.
WFMY News 2's Ryan Gavette hung out with crews constructing the course. It's the third time the event has been in Asheboro. Navy Seals help with designing the first course.
On its website organizers say this year's competition will have bigger and badder obstacles. Participants can still expect to run mud pits, fire jumps, tubes, 16' walls, swinging pendulums, a 60' water slide and some new surprises that'll make this one wild and rugged day of fun! Rugged Maniac has at least twenty obstacles constructed by an experienced crew of licensed contractors.
A company out of Boston, MA is constructing the course and have done it for the past three years.
