Hillsborough, NC -- A judge has delayed the resentencing for one of two men convicted in the 2008 death of University of North Carolina Chapel Hill student president Eve Carson.
Twenty-two-year-old Laurence Alvin Lovette went before an Orange County judge Friday. Judge Allen Baddour delayed the hearing until June because an expert witness was unavailable.
The state Court of Appeals ordered that Lovette be resentenced after a U.S. Supreme Court decision. The high court ruled that an automatic life sentence without parole is unconstitutional if the defendant was under age 18 at the time of the crime.
Lovette was 17 when Carson was killed. He was convicted of premeditated murder, kidnapping and robbery.
The Athens, Ga., woman was abducted from her apartment and killed after the men used her debit card to get cash.
