Jose Hernandez, Still Wanted
Greensboro, NC-- A man who escaped from the Guilford County Jail in High Point more than a month ago is back in jail.
In March, Jose Idel Sid and Jose Hernandez-Hernandez escaped through a window at the Guilford County Detention Center in High Point.
Investigators believe the men used bed linen to lower themselves down from the window.
The search for Sid ended Tuesday morning when police picked him up in Greensboro after getting a call reporting assault.
Sheriff BJ Barnes says Sid wouldn't give up, fought with an officer, and refused to give his name.
He was booked as John Doe but a detention officer recognized him.
Colonel Powers with the Sheriff's office tells WFMY News 2, that inmates who are uncooperative and don't have identification are booked as "John Doe" until their true identity is learned.
Powers said a High Point Detention Officer just happened to be at the Greensboro Jail working and recognized Sid as the man who escaped from the High Point Jail on March 16.
He is being closely monitored and is held without bail.
Sid and Hernandez were both in jail on charges of Indecent Liberties with a Minor. Sheriff BJ Barnes said Sid was also in jail on an immigration detainer since he was in this country illegally.
"I still think his partner is around here to be honest with you. I never thought they did leave. I think that they're probably in the area and in this particular case you had people who were assisting him, he got part time jobs, they'd given him money and were assisting him in staying in this particular area," explained Sheriff Barnes, Guilford County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Barnes says Sid picked up odd jobs in Greensboro and in Archdale.
Barnes blames human error for their escape and says several officers were given disciplinary action.
Authorities are still looking for Hernandez-Hernandez.
