Trinity, NC -- Authorities are investigating a fatal house fire at a home that was supposed to be vacant, according to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office.
Firefighters and law enforcement responded to the scene of the fire on Parinna Drive at 11 p.m. Thursday.
While crews worked to put out the fire, they found an unidentified body inside the house.
Detectives say the house was not being rented and should have been vacant at the time of the fire. Initial investigation shows the victim might have been sleeping there for the past two or three nights.
Deputies have a preliminary identification of the victim, but they are sending the body to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Raleigh for an official identification.
The sheriff's office will not release the person's name until officers have notified next of kin.
Firefighters still don't know what caused this fire.
