Robert Dale Ellis, Yadkin Co. Sheriff's Office
Yadkinville, NC -- A man from Michigan, who is now living in a Triad county, was charged for not registering in North Carolina as a sex offender.
The Yadkin County Sheriff's Office arrested Dale Ellis, 40, who they said was living in Hamptonville, NC.
Investigators said they received a tip about Ellis being an unregistered sex offender. Officers in Yadkin County contacted the US Marshals Service who offered to help deputies in Yadkin County with the investigation, potentially charging Ellis federally.
Ellis was charged with Failing to Register as a Sex Offender in North Carolina and was placed in the Yadkin County Detention Center under a $15,000 secure bond. He is also charged with Possession of a Firearm by Felon under a $10,000 secure bond.
The sheriff's office said they will work with federal law enforcement officials to determine additional charges. Investigators said Ellis was registered in Michigan.
A North Carolina statute requires all sex offenders in state or out of state to register with the local sheriff's departments of their home address.
