Greensboro, NC -- The Greensboro Police Department evacuated about 17 homes in the area of Moss Cove Drive Tuesday afternoon after a man barricaded himself inside a house for nearly two hours.

Investigators said James Chadwick Shearin surrendered peacefully and unharmed just before 5:30 p.m. One of Shearin's relatives called 9-1-1 after receiving a text message from him stating he was going to harm himself. Police said he sent multiple text messages to other family members with the same message.

Police officers evacuated the homes out of safety after finding out Shearin was armed. He's now being evaluated at a mental health facility. No charges have been filed against Shearin at this time.
