Raleigh, NC -- A North Carolina man faces multiple life prison sentences for a plot to behead witnesses whose testimony convicted him of his role in planning terror attacks against a Virginia Marine Corps base and overseas targets.
Hysen Sherifi of Raleigh was sentenced in court on Friday. He lectured federal Judge Earl Britt about Islamic teachings and warned the judge he faced damnation. Britt then sentenced Sherifi to four life sentences to be served on top of 45 years for his involvement in a homegrown terrorist plot involving six Raleigh-area Muslims.
Britt said Sherifi destroyed the lives of his brother Shkumbin Sherifi and former special education teacher Nevine Aly Elshiekh. They were scheduled for sentencing Friday after pleading guilty last year to conspiracy to commit murder for hire at Hysen Sherifi's urging.
