Greensboro, NC - School Within A School started in 1974 as a non-traditional learning environment for students who sought a differently learning environment than a traditional classroom, and on Saturday they held their first every high school reunion, because some students say their school was forgotten.

School within a School was housed within Dudley High School, but was considered a separate school.

The class of 1978 marked their senior year by planting a time capsule with plans to re-open it in 2000.

Starr Pate and Deborah Cox, graduates of the School Within A School class of 1978 told News 2 that when they went searching for the time capsule, they discovered it had been covered with new construction of a media center on campus.

On top of this, Pate and Cox say when they went to the school, there was no memory their school even existed.

"When we went there there was no trophy case or anything, we are just like the missing students." said Cox.

Pate added, "The Dudley Alumni Association had no idea of the program."

Guilford County Schools Student Service Administrator Paul Wirth sent the Pate a letter saying, "I regret the SWS Time Capsule was not found prior to the renovation of Dudley High School."

On Saturday, the School Within A School held their first ever high school reunion, reconnecting after more than 30 years for many.

Pate said she finally feels remembered, all because of a search for a time capsule, "They have invited us to be alumni, we are not so much forgotten anymore because of all of this."
