Lexington, NC -- A beautiful holiday weekend turned into a horrific tragedy for an Oak Ridge family, as Wildlife officials confirm two people died after a boating accident on High Rock Lake Saturday afternoon.

There were four people on each boat, according to officials at the scene. None of the adults was wearing a life jacket, but the one child on board was.
Of the four people on the pontoon boat, Melissa Chambers Britt, 32, who was pregnant, and her 3-year-old son, William Jaiden Britt, of Oak Ridge, have been confirmed dead. Officials say they also airlifted Michael Chambers, Melissa's brother, to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with severe head injuries. He remained in critical condition, Sunday.
William Clayborn Britt, the husband, father of the deceased, was also on the boat but survived.
The driver of the speed boat, Michael Greene, 52, of McLeansville was not injured in the accident.
Authorities initially responded to the scene for a search-and-rescue mission around 12:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Davidson County Communications.
