Greensboro, NC -- An inmate at the Greensboro Jail Central was found dead Tuesday morning after a four-day-stay, according to the sheriff's office.
Michael Stephen Dearen, 60, was found unresponsive in a cell, by himself, around 5:30 am. The sheriff's office said Dearen arrived at the jail for an Assault on a Female charge last Friday.
Deputies said Dearen was in his cell Monday night at 11 and appeared to be sleeping while officers made their rounds throughout the night. They noticed something was wrong when he did not have his breakfast. After inspecting his cell, they found Dearen wasn't breathing and tried to revive him. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead.
In 1983, Dearen was convicted of Second Degree Murder and Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon. He was in jail from May 25, 1983 until June 2, 2010, until he was released on parole, according to the sheriff's office.
In addition to his recent Assault on a Female charge this month, Dearen was additionally served a Domestic Violence Protective Order Monday and his bond was set to $2,500.
