Wilkes, County, NC-- The storm that moved through the Triad Thursday afternoon was quick, but it was deadly and destructive.

In Wilkes County, Fire Marshal Kevin Bound confirmed to WFMY News 2 that two people died as a result of the storm when it passed through the county. One death was a firefighter.

Bounds said 36 year-old Tony Barker, a volunteer firefighter with the Mountain View Fire Department (MVFD), was electrocuted when some live power lines fell on some property and he came into contact with them.

Barker was rushed to the hospital where he died. Barker leaves behind a wife, Jennifer, and 3-year-old son, Eli. He had worked for the MVFD for about a year and a half.

Funeral for Barker:

The Viewing for Tony Barker will be Sunday, June 16 from 5:00 p.m, until 7:00 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, located at 270 Armory Road in North Wilkesboro.

The Memorial Service scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 17 at Reins Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Dehart Baptist Church Cemetery in Hays, NC.

Also in Wilkes County on Thursday, a tree fell on a man in the Mulberry-Fairplains Fire District killing him. Fire Chief Ricky Gambill said Maurice Kilby, 77, died when a large pine tree snapped and fell on him when he was outside his home.

Dozens of trees fell across the Triad area, and unfortunately, many fell onto homes, power lines and across road ways. Power crews are asking everyone to be patient as they try to restore power.
