Chapel Hill, NC -- A senior at UNC-Chapel Hill died when a tree fell on her during Thursday's storm, according to CBS affiliate WRAL.
Orange County EMS Director Jim Groves told WRAL the accident happened in the 300 block of East Franklin Street around 5:15 pm.An oak tree was uprooted in front of the Chi Omega sorority house, which fell across the lawn and sidewalk.
Xuezhou "Julia" Nan, 20-years-old from Cary, was unresponsive when a bystander pulled her from underneath the tree, according to WRAL.
"It is so hard to lose one so young, especially in such a terrible, random and tragic event. I hope that all of you, Julia's fellow Tar Heels, will keep her family and friends in your thoughts at this sad time," Chancellor Holden Thorp said in a message to students and staff obtained by WRAL.
Nan double-majored in psychology and biology, it was unclear if she was a member of the sorority.
