Former Winston-Salem Police Chief Scott Cunningham Named Kernersville Police Chief

Kernersville, N.C. -- Winston-Salem Police Chief Scott Cunningham who announced he was retiring at the end of June won't be taking a break after all; instead he's accepted a new job offer, about 20 miles from Winston-Salem.

The Town of Kernersville announced Thursday Scott Cunningham as the next Chief of Police. He was one of seven finalists in the running for the position. He's scheduled to begin June 30, 2013. His new job also means Cunningham will be moving to the Kernersville area.

Cunningham announced he was retiring from the Winston-Salem Police Department in December of 2012. Recently the Barry D. Rountree who was the Assistant Police Chief was named the new Chief and will start his new position June 30, 2013.

Cunningham will bring plenty of experience to the Kernersville Police Department after seven years as a Chief and twenty additional years as Deputy Chief. He's a Team Leader for the Commission on Law Enforcement Accreditation and serves on the Mid-Size City Chiefs Committee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. But not only that, he has 6,000 hours of related experience.
