Greensboro, NC - Greensboro Police confirm they found a pipe bomb at Stonesthrow Apartment Homes in Greensboro, Monday.

Authorities were called to the apartments on Farmington Drive around 11:30 Monday morning after management reported a suspicious device believed to be a pipe bomb was found in an empty apartment.

Police say staff members found the device when they were cleaning an apartment that was vacated in May. Police say the staff took the object to the parking lot and notified authorities.

The GPD Hazardous Device Team confirmed the item was an active pipe bomb and neutralized it just after 1:00 p.m. No one was injured during the incident.

Police have launched an investigation and are trying to determine who is responsible.

WFMY News 2's Morgan Hightower spoke with residents about the incident who say they're shocked a bomb was found in their apartment complex.

"It's really crazy. I don't really like it. It makes me want to move now," said Cameron Williams, resident, Stonesthrow Apartments.

"I mean, it's a scary situation because all those, the thing that happened in Boston, and the shooting, and random acts of violence. It's not a good thing," said Michael Holloway, resident Stonesthrow Apartments. " For something like this to happen in a gated community that is not good at all."

Melody Woods added, "Just to hear pipe bombs or any type, that's really scary. And it just lets you know, no matter where you think you're safe at, nowhere is really safe."

The manager at the apartment complex was not available for comment.
