Women Charged With Stealing From Tanger Outlet Stores, Encouraging Children To Steal

  • Charged with stealing several items from Tanger Outlets in Mebane.

Mebane, NC-- Two women have been charged with stealing merchandise from stores at the Tanger Outlet in Mebane. Officers said one of the women had two children with her when she was arrested.

According to Mebane Police, around 1:27 p.m. on Saturday officers were requested for a theft of merchandise report at the Sunglass Hut on Arrowhead Blvd. After talking with someone at the business, officers stopped a woman who a store employee said was the person who stole some items.

Police said there were two juveniles with the woman when they  asked her about the allegations. Officers said the woman, identified as Karyta Kittrell, was in possession of stolen merchandise.

A second female suspect was connected to the crime via surveillance video. Officers located her in a car in the parking lot of the business. The suspects' car was searched and additional stolen merchandise was found, police said.

Mebane Police arrested and charged Karyta Rashown Kittrell of High Point and Sheconda Olympia Douglas of Jamestown.

According to the suspect's warrants, the women stole several items of child and adult clothing, sunglasses, jewelry, and shoes from Carters, OshKosh, Gap, Sunglass Hut, Gymboree, Papaya, Rue 21, Nike, and Sketchers. The total value of the items was $1,286.42.

The warrant also states that Ms. Kittrell caused, encouraged, and aided two juvenile females, ages 7 and 9 to conceal items in bags and leave stores with the stolen merchandise.

Kittrell is charged with: Felony Larceny and Contributing to Delinquency of Juvenile. Kittrell was placed in the Alamance County Jail in Lieu of $15,000.00 secured bond.

Douglas is charged with Felony Larceny and Contributing to Delinquency of Juvenile and one (1) count of Resisting Public Officer. Ms. Douglas was placed in the Alamance County Jail in Lieu of $15,000.00 secured bond.

Douglas' two children were released into the custody of another family member.
