Greensboro, NC -- How can you maximize your health without minimizing your wallet?
Depending on who you ask, you need to have this test or that test every year. But the tests it seems every health site, doctor, nurse and patient advocate agree on: your female and male wellness visit. Don't miss it. They all say it's worth the time and money to know everything is okay, or to catch what could be a chronic problem before it's a problem.
Denise Digh, a registered nurse, patient advocate and owner of Silver Co-ordinated Care says you can probably skip the full blood panel during your yearly physical. "What you shouldn't skip is your blood pressure check, cholesterol, and if you have a history your blood sugar."
Denise says just because everything seems to be tied in together and everyone is using computers, doesn't mean your doctor knows everything you're taking and everything that has happened to you health wise in the last year.
She says,"these days, doctors only have 15 to 20 minutes with you. Make it easy for them by writing down all the medications, vitamins, herbal supplements and even over the counter medications you take."
Denise says, even if you think you'll remember, write down what your thoughts, questions and concerns are because the 15 minute appointments go fast.
