Police: 2 Arrested In Assault On Jewelry Store Workers

Mebane, NC -- Police in Mebane said they have arrested two men who assaulted employees at Ashley and Co Jewelers while attempting to rob the business, last Friday.

Employees reported that the men came inside looked around, pulled out a gun and then began making demands.

Police said said when employees fought back, one employee was pepper-sprayed; the other was punched in the face. Both were treated at the store for minor injuries.

Police said their assailants were unsuccessful in robbing the store - no money or merchandise was taken.

Thursday, Mebane police said they arrested:

Thomas Charles Porter of Durham, NC. Porter is charged with: Possession of a Firearm by a Felon

  • Attempted Armed Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Assault Inflicting Serious Injury
  • Assault by Pointing a Gun
  • Second Degree Kidnapping
  • Assault on a Female

Porter was also served with three outstanding warrants for Felony Probation Violations. His bond was set at $132,000.

Darren Lumus Edward Hart, Jr. was also arrested. He is charged with:

  • Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon
  • Second Degree Kidnapping
  • Assault by Pointing a Gun

Hart's bond was set at $125,000.
