Greensboro, NC -- The Guilford County Sheriff's Office is issuing a warning about some individuals preying on people for money, by pretending to be deputies.

Guilford County Sheriff BJ Barnes said the person or persons are posing as law enforcement officers and asking for money on unpaid loans. The sheriff's office received a complaint from a citizen who said they got a call from someone impersonating a deputy. The caller told the person that they owed money on a loan and a warrant had been issued for their arrest.

The person instructed the citizen to purchase a prepaid Visa card and provide the PIN of the card to the caller. They were also told to pay an additional sum of money and the warrant would be disposed of.

Sheriff Barnes wants citizens to know the the Guilford County Sheriff's Office will never call you or anyone demanding money for repayment of outstanding loans.

If anyone receives these calls, they should call the Guilford County Sheriff's Office at 336-641- 3355 to verify the information before taking any action.
