ROCKINGHAM COUNTY - Emergency response is becoming more efficient in Rockingham County. Friday was the official groundbreaking for the consolidated 911 center between Rockingham County, the city of Eden and the city of Reidsville.
Right now, if you call 911 in Reidsville and Eden, there's only one dispatcher on duty, and your call goes to the city's police department. Both departments don't dispatch for EMS, rescue or certain fire departments that may be needs, so your call then gets transferred to county dispatch.
This new center will allow emergency calls to come in to one center, and that means quicker response times.
The new facility is being built with a $7.8 million grant from the North Carolina 911 Board.
The goal is to have it open by August of 2014.
