YADKINVILLE, N.C. -- A malnourished dog in Yadkinville was euthanized because of deteriorating health conditions; its owners were arrested for felony charges.
Deputies with the Yadkin County Sheriff's Office were called to a home on Vestal Street, Friday, after they received reports about the dog. Investigators said they found the dog in a backyard kennel.
Yadkin County Animal Control took the dog, but had to euthanize it an hour later because of its condition.
Deputies said the owners, Nickolas Allen Lovelace and Karen Atkinson Lovelace, were aware of the dog's poor health.
Both were charged with one count of Felony Kill Animal by Starvation. They were released from jail on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
