DURHAM, N.C. -- The Durham Police Department has released the name of the officer who shot a man Saturday after he refused to drop a knife.
Monday, police said Officer R.S. Mbuthia is on administrative leave without pay, which is a standard practice whenever an officer is involved in a shooting, according to WRAL.

Mbuthia and other responding officers were called to Park Avenue Saturday morning where they found a man who had a cut on his face from a knife.
Police say the man with the knife - who will not be identified until his family was notified - was a block away from the victim. Mbuthia shot him after he declined to drop the weapon.
No update was provided on the condition of the victim.
WRAL reports that Mbuthia joined the Durham Police Department in February 2005.
