GREENSBORO, N.C. -- RF Micro Devices will eliminate about 120 employees from its Greensboro headquarters.

In a statement, the company noted that some of these employees are candidates for other positions in the company.

Although these reductions are difficult, they are necessary to match changes in technology over time, as dictated by customer requirements. RFMD has always utilized a variety of technologies to design products according to specific performance and cost characteristics required by our customers. This allows us to make technology choices that become the foundation of our products and sometimes results in staffing level changes at our various manufacturing locations.

Last Tuesday, the company announced 45 percent growth year-over-year and earned record revenue of $293 million in the last quarter. Last quarter's earnings were up from the $280.6 million reported in the prior quarter.

RFMD was founded in 1991. The company designs and manufactures semiconductor components used for mobile devices, wireless infrastructures and Aerospace and Defense markets. They have manufacturing plants in Beijing, China; Brooksville, Fla.; Broomfield, Colo.; Greensboro, N.C.; Newton Aycliffe, UK; and Nuremberg, Germany.
