LAKE NORMAN, N.C. -- Alligator sightings at Lake Norman were reported to police Wednesday morning. However, police said the animal turned out to be a turtle.
Police told WBTV an alligator between 2 and 3 feet long was seen near the Peninsula Yacht Club before 8 a.m.
Officers originally said they saw an alligator in the water when they went to investigate, according to WBTV.
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission was called to help with the search.
