Deputies: Man Shot Intervening During Fight Over Cigarettes

LANCASTER, S.C. -- Deputies in Lancaster say a fight over a pack of cigarettes led to the beating of a man and the shooting of the person who tried to save him.

Officers arrested three people - Kyndra Dynise Jones, Brandon J'lil Thompson and Ronnel Chelvis Thompson - and charged them with Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature, according to a report from WBTV.

Ronnel was additionally charged with Attempted Murder.Deputies were called to an apartment complex Saturday evening. They found a 31-year-old man shot and a 36-year-old man severely beaten.

Deputies said the three suspects were punching and kicking the 36-year-old when the 31-year-old man - who had a gun - came to help stop the beating.

Ronnel also had a gun and fired multiple shots at the 31-year-old, according to WBTV.

WBTV said investigators chased the Thompsons through the Woods; Jones turned herself in several hours later.

The two victims were taken to a hospital before they were airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center, according to WBTV.
