GRAHAM, N.C. -- Deputies in Alamance County say they arrested a man and his girlfriend for forging checks from his great-aunt's bank account.
SunTrust Bank contacted investigators in August because of an $18,000 check written from the woman's account.
After investigating, deputies said more than $22,000 was taken from the account between June and August.
Michael Troy Shoffner and Sandra Lynn Johnson were arrested Wednesday. Shoffner and Johnson were charged with Exploitation of Elderly. Shoffner faces additional charges, including Attempt to Obtain Property by False Pretense and Forgery/Uttering Forged Instrument.
Shoffner was issued a $125,000 secured bond; Johnson a $10,000 secured bond.
