night, charged in the fatal shooting of an unarmed man in East
A statement from police said officers responded to a breaking and entering call early Saturday, and found a man fitting a description matching one provided by a homeowner who called 911.
According to police, 24-year-old Jonathan A. Ferrell ran toward officers, one of whom used a Taser on him. Ferrell continued running toward one of the officers, who fired his weapon.
Ferrell died at the scene. Investigators think Ferrell was driving a car that was found down an embankment in some nearby woods and they're trying to determine if Ferrell was trying to get help from the homeowner who called police.
Ferrell was a former Florida A&M football player, police confirmed.
