National Weather Service Confirms Tornado Touched Down Near King Saturday

Blacksburg, VA -- The National Weather Service says a tornado touched down in Stokes County Saturday evening.

The Weather Service says the tornado originally touched down near the Stokes County and Forsyth County line, just before 6 p.m. 

The tornado started near Newsome Road, in King, and moved to the northeast.

Researchers say it was an EF-1 tornado, with maximum wind speeds of 90 mph. It was on the ground for .61 miles.

The Weather Service says there were no injuries or fatalities in the tornado.

Stokes County EMS officials say they received reports of damage on Ingram Dr., Augusta Ct., near US-52 South and near Village Care.

The Weather Service says three buildings were damaged during the tornado.
