WILKES COUNTY, NC-- Wilkes County Sheriff's deputies have arrested and charged a man with killing his roommate and a bank robbery.
At about 10 a.m. Monday, the Wilkes County Communications Center received a 911 call in reference to a shooting on Goldmine Ridge Road in the Windy Gap area. Deputies found 49 year-old George Howard Moses dead from a gunshot wound to the head, according to a news release.
Less than 30 minutes later, the 911 Communications Center reportedly received a call about an armed robbery at the Wells Fargo bank on West US Hwy 421. Wilkesboro Police confirmed that the robbery suspect matched the description of the shooting suspect, 51 year-old Rainer Johannes Hoedl.
An alert was sent out to law enforcement in Wilkes and surrounding counties for Hoedl. At a little after Noon, a North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper saw the vehicle traveling west on US Hwy 421 in Watauga County and stopped the driver. Troopers confirmed it was Hoedl and took him into custody.
Hoedl is in the Wilkes County Sheriff's Office facing charges of Murder and Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.
