Burlington Woman Assaulted, Police Arrest Her Boyfriend

BURLINGTON, N.C. -- A man the Burlington Police Department was looking for in an alleged assault is now in custoday.

Police responded to a call at around 3:15 p.m. on Saturday at an Auburn Trace Drive apartment. When police arrived they found a woman who was semiconscious inside an apartment. The victims informed police that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, Vernon Gray Gibbs, Jr. of Durham, NC.

The victim was taken for medical treatment at a local hospital.

Officers had warrants for Vernon G. Gibbs, Jr. on charges of: Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, Assault by Strangulation, 2-counts felony Breaking and Entering, Larceny after Breaking and Entering, Assault on a Female, Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Injury to Personal Property, Injury to Real Property, Communicating Threats.

Monday, police said Gibbs was arrested around 3:50 p.m. in Burlington.
