Winston-Salem, NC - A wreath and flowers were placed in front of the Public Safety Center for the fourth year to represent police officers' ultimate sacrifice for their community

It was four years ago that Sergent Mickey Hutchens was killed in the line of duty.

Former Police Chief Scott Cunningham says officers pay tribute each year to Hutchens and other fallen officers by wearing black bands on their badges and black ribbons for those without badges.

An honor guard stands at the Winston Salem Police Department memorial each year from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to honor these officers
